Geography, Convenience of Location for Life and Business – Useful Info
The UAE is a Middle East country situated in Southwest Asia and bordering on Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Iran. It consists of 7 Emirates, Dubai, Ajman, Fujairah, Rasal-Khaimah, Sharjah and Ummal-Quwain, and Abu Dhabi which is also the capital and the biggest Emirate within the country (occupying 85 % of the total area).
Since it is located in the Persian Gulf, the state is a member of the Gulf Cooperation Council, a union composed of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
The geographical location of the country is economically advantageous – it is a vitally important transit joint for oil lobby. However, even before the first oil reserves have been discovered this area has been an important harbour and trade centre. No wonder, Great Britain took such a strong interest in the region and used it to its benefit until the protectorate ended in 1971. The UAE has also been known as a place of pearl extraction for a long time.
The bigger part of the UAE is a desert (Empty Quarter desert) where flora is sparse. Mountain terrain is characteristic of the northern and eastern parts of the country. The amount of rainfall here is slightly higher than in the rest of the country (350 mm compared to 100 mm). The climate of the country is subtropical, very hot and dry. The temperature can reach its maximum of 45-50 °С in the hottest summer months (July and August) and the minimum of 20-23 °С in January and February.
The UAE is very rich in mineral resources, namely oil and natural gas. The estimated amount of the oil reserves is 12,330 million tons (about 10% of the world storage). The main deposits are situated in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah. The UAE scores fourth in the list of countries with the biggest reserve of natural gas. The state is actively searching for new deposits, though the economy of the country tries not to rely heavily on oil and is known as one of the most diversified economies in the world.
Despite containing one of the biggest deserts in the world, the UAE has numerous oases with vineyards, date palms and eucalyptus. The fauna of the country is represented by coastal fish and some mammals.
Nowadays, the UAE and Dubai, in particular, is a very progressive and fast-growing state. Thanks for its geographic location you can reach almost any country in the world within 8 hours time from here. So, the location of the state is very convenient for those doing business, as well as for those who are willing to move to the country.
